Crab the Zodiac sign

My lovely readers, hope you are doing good and trying to settle down with the daily changing conditions. The situation is such that it is difficult to plan ahead because of an increase in the count and unlocking everything together. The country cannot afford to keep loc-down for long due to the economic impact and hence unlocking is necessary but having said that we need to continue to take care to ensure we are safe and keeping a safe distance from this deadly virus.

So what to offer today is the question? Something different is always the answer. Today’s topic I had decided on the same day of the Panvel trip because that trip was rewarding not only with ODKF but also with one of the oldest species on the Earth “Crab.” Yes, today’s topic is Crab. Most people know crab for various dishes but I am sure hardly few know about the features of this wonderful creature so let us not eat but meet the Crab to know more about it.

The story

Before we get into the details let me tell you the story of how I got connected to it. I have a habit of visiting wetlands near my home to capture anything and everything available there. Last month I saw colorful crab moving here and there, the color and its unique pattern attracted me to take more interest. I wanted to know more about this creature and was thinking about where to get more of it and guess what the opportunity came as a gift in the same month. Yes, it came along with the ODKF trip.

Many times, you go on a trip for a specific bird/animal and you ignore other things available there. Here the moment I saw crabs I decided to focus on crabs as well. Different colors, different sizes, behavior, etc. were just amazing and equally photogenic as ODKF. In between the ODKF visits, Crab helped us to occupied with clicks with their countless presence. With this story, we should move ahead to the next section to know more about this wonderful creature.

Fantastic Facts

How do you relate to the Crab? Non-veggies will relate the same with food but what about veggies? So let me remind you of Cancer Star Sign. Yes, it has a cultural influence. Both the constellation Cancer and the astrological sign of Cancer are named after the crab and depicted as a crab. The Moche people of ancient Peru worshipped nature, especially the sea, and often depicted crabs in their art

Crab is an invertebrate that belongs to the crustacean family. There are over 4500 species of crabs and most of them live in the coastal areas of salty, fresh, or brackish water (mix of fresh and salty water)

Crabs are very old creatures. They appeared on the Earth during the Jurassic period, 200 million years ago. Certain species of crabs are endangered because of habitat loss and due to intensive hunt. 1½ million tons of crabs are cooked alive each year. The latest analysis showed that crabs feel the pain during that process

Crabs greatly vary in size. The smallest species, Pea Crab, reaches from 0.27 to 0.47 inches in length. Largest species, Japanese Spider Crab has a leg span of 12 feet (from claw to claw)

Crabs are also known as decapods because they have 10 legs. The first pair of legs is modified into claws, called chelae

Crabs have an external skeleton called "exoskeleton". It is made of chitin and it provides protection for the soft tissue underneath it. Another name for exoskeleton is shell or carapace

Females can be distinguished from males by the shape of the abdomen and the flap on their bellies. Female has a wide abdomen and flap shaped like a dome. The Male has a narrow abdomen and flap shaped like an obelisk

Crabs have eyes on the stalks, just like snails. They can distinguish colors, but their eyes see a lot fewer details than human eyes

Crabs breathe with the help of gills. That is why they need to stay close to the water even if they live mainly on the land

Crabs communicate via sound. They produce drumming and flapping sounds by using their claws and pincers

Pregnancy lasts one to two weeks and female deposits between 1000 and 2000 eggs

Crabs are prepared and eaten as a dish in many different ways all over the world. Some species are eaten whole, including the shell, such as soft-shell crab; with other species, just the claws or legs are eaten

Such a unique creature and offers variety, from cultural importance to the part of large food export all over. I hope you liked this blog, keep blessing and keep motivating me to deliver unique stuff, do let me know your feedback on btwildart@gmail.om
